Today (Wed. Apr 27) CNN put out an article entitled:

Seven reasons you should care about Libya

After reading it I quickly thought of 3 IMPORTANT REASONS WHY [IF YOU’RE AN EXPAT IN TUNISIA] you should really care about what’s going on in LIBYA.

Geography:  This is an easy point.  The CNN article was trying to convince why the WEST should care about what’s going on in Libya.  It’s pretty easy to see why TUNISIA should care.

“Isis is in Libya, close to our borders.” The President told La Stampa, “The Russian military intervention in Syria and the blows suffered by Isis in Iraq have prompted them to organize themselves in Libya.”-President of Tunisia

Economy-Bottom line:  While there are poScreen Shot 2016-04-27 at 11.42.20 AMsitive developments taking place in Tunisia; IT ALL DEPENDS ON SECURITY & STABILITY. Another attack would be devistating to Tunisia and it wouldn’t take much to make the International organizations reassess their position in Tunisia.

Opportunity:  IF ISIS is allowed to grow in Libya more Tunisians will flock and train there.

Let’s not forget that:

  • Tunisians are still leading every nationality in terms of ISIS involvement.
  • The Bardo & Sousse attacks were planned from Libya.

Numbers don’t lie

As a security professional don’t agree with the optimistic viewpoint that’s gaining traction in Tunisia.  The numbers simply don’t lie.  Tunisia faces a powerful 2-headed monster named Security-Economy and it is not going away any time soon.

If the situation gets worse in Libya then we can except major challenges in Tunisia.  As the West prepares to take decisive action in Libya; we can only hope for the best.
